FIFA Rankings: Algeria down 5 spots to 31st
The Algerian football team, who finished fourth in the 27th Africa Cup of Nations (Angola, 10-31 January 2010), went down five spots to 31st in the latest FIFA rankings published on Wednesday by the world football's governing body.
Two defeats against Malawi (3-0) in the group stages of the Angolan event, and Egypt (4-0) in the semi-finals, explain the drop of Madjid Bougherra's teammates in FIFA's February rankings. At the African level, Algeria ranks fifth behind African champions Egypt (10th), Nigeria (15th), Cote d'Ivoire (22nd) and Ghana (27th).
Algeria’s opponents in the 2010 World Cup (Group) are ranked as follows: England (9th), the United States (14th) and Slovenia 33rd.
Spain top the overall FIFA standings followed by Brazil and the Netherlands.
Next FIFA World Rankings will be issued on 3rd March 2010.
