Algeria and Italy agreed, on Thursday, to intensify efforts and strengthen coordination and consultation on the situation in Libya to sustain the ceasefire in force in order to facilitate "ways of resuming dialogue between the conflicting parties and relaunching the peace process, far from any foreign military interference," said a statement issued by the presidency of the Republic.

During the talks between the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the President of the Italian Council, Giuseppe Conte, the two parties agreed, with regard to the Libyan dossier, "to intensify efforts and strengthen coordination and consultation to sustain the ceasefire in force in order to facilitate the resumption of dialogue between the parties in conflict and relaunch the peace process sponsored by the United Nations, with a view to preserving Libya's territorial integrity, sovereignty and the unity of its people, far from any foreign military interference".

Expressing their conviction that military solutions are ineffective as long as the crisis lasts, the two sides expressed their "commitment to the political solution as the only way to resolve the crisis", agreeing to "coordinate the positions of the two countries at the international level".

In addition to the Libyan dossier, the discussions between Mr. Tebboune and Mr. Conte, who arrived Thursday in Algiers, focused on "the multidimensional and exceptional bilateral relations, particularly reflected in the regular consultation and strategic dialogue between the two countries on political and security issues in addition to trade".

The two parties reaffirmed their willingness to deepen these relations, to give them a new impetus, to extend cooperation to maritime infrastructures and to take advantage of Italian skills and experience, particularly in the fields of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), emerging businesses, information technology and renewable energy.
