Algeria has expressed its "total" rejection of positions considering Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories as "not in violation of international law", describing them as "a flagrant violation of international law and relevant Security Council resolutions", according to a statement issued yesterday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Algeria sees in these positions a new obstacle likely to undermine efforts to find a solution to the Palestinian question," the same source said. "While calling Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories illegal…”

“Algeria reaffirms its unconditional support for the right of the brotherly Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with Al-Quds as its capital and recalls the importance of the Arab Peace Initiative resulting from the 2002 Beirut Summit," the statement concluded.
