Tizi-Ouzou: RN 25 closed due to landslide

The RN 15 national road linking the municipalities of Larbaa Nath Irathen and Ain El Hammam, south-east of Tizi-Ouzou, will be temporarily closed to traffic as from Monday due to rehabilitation works following the latest bad weather in the region, it was reported from the local Public Works Directorate (DTP).

"A major rock fall was recorded on Saturday on this road, causing it to become obstructed and car traffic to stop," the DTP said.  On Sunday, a large rock, which remained suspended because of this rock fall and which posed a risk to users, was drained by the DTP services.  "We have decided to close this road to allow the cleaning of the rubbish caused by the rockslide and carry out the necessary repairs," said Smail Rabhi, the head of the department, to national media.

To this end, the DTP invites users of this road axis to use the city centre of the adjacent municipality, Ait Agouacha, during the duration of the works, which may take "a few days", he stressed.  Other minor landslides and landslides have also been recorded over the past two days on some roads, such as the RN 25 and the CW linking the communes of Aït Yahia Moussa and Boghni, south-east of Tizi-Ouzou, to the capital of the province.
