CTBTO Hails efforts on Nuke-Test Ban Treaty

Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Lassino Zerbo on Monday hailed the efforts made by Algeria to implement the Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and its role in international peace, security and stability.“I came to Algeria under a workshop organized by CTBTO to strengthen capacities in Africa and allow international players and experts discuss with Africans and support the Algerian government's move for peace, international security and stability,” Zerbo said after his meeting with Foreign Ministry Abdelkader Messahel.The CTBTO official said he discussed with Messahel “Algeria’s efforts for peace and security in the world and its support to the African countries that work for the destruction of nuclear weapons.” “Algeria, which suffered from 17 French nuclear tests on its territory and is still suffering from their harmful effects, supports peace and security issues that start by the total prohibition of nuclear tests and the total prohibition of nuclear weapons in the future,” recalled Zerbo.Algeria signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty on 15 October 1996 and ratified it on 11 July 2003. As of 30 April 2018, the Treaty was signed by 183 states.
