The Algerian Cement Industry Group (GICA) is now the first producer of petroleum cement in Africa, the group announced Monday in a statement.

According to the same source, this type of cement had previously been imported for nearly 30 million dollars per year to meet an estimated national demand that exceeds 200,000 Tones/year.

The company of Cement de Ain l’kebira (SCAEK), a subsidiary of the GICA group, is certified to API (American Petroleum Institute) standards, which is able to produce this type of cement for the hydrocarbon sector, according to the press release.

Indeed, the Society des Cement of Ain l’kebira has obtained two certifications as part of this process. The first certification is the "Q1" and it concerns organization and management, according to American standards. The second certification, with the code "10 A", is related to product quality.

"With such a label, SCAEK is the first company in Algeria and Africa to produce petroleum cement, with an excellent price-quality ratio," noted the GICA group.

Located in Setif, this subsidiary of the GICA group, which produces an average of three (3) million tons of cement per year, "will also be able to export its new product to foreign markets".

"Beyond reducing the import bill, the production and marketing of this new type of cement will also enable the GICA group to expand and diversify its product range and satisfy the local market," said the Algerian cement industry group.
