Algeria's exports rose by 40.51% over the first seven months of 2010 to USD32.630 billion, compared with USD23.223 billion during the same period in 2009, according to Algerian Customs' National Data Processing and Statistics Centre (CNIS). Imports have reached a total of USD22.983 billion, down 5.1% compared with 2009 (USD24.195 billion), according to the centre. Trade balance recorded a USD9.647 billion surplus, against a USD972 million deficit in 2009. Hydrocarbons were Algeria's main exports in the first seven months of 2010 with 96.65% (USD31.538 billion) of the total exports. Non-hydrocarbon exports remain insignificant with USD1.092 billion, according to the statistics centre's figures.
They are mainly made up of semi-finished products, which recorded a progress by more than 142% to USD805 million, against USD332 million last year.
Non-hydrocarbon products represent 2.47% of exports' total value.
Food exports also increased reaching USD147 million, against USD82 million in 2009.
They account for 0.45% of the total exports.
Unfinished products account for 0.33% of exports reaching USD109 million, against USD103 million in 2009, up 5.83%.
Industrial equipments and non-food consumer goods have recorded a significant drop during the first seven months 2010, according to the National Data Processing and Statistics Centre.
Industrial equipment exports fell by 44.4% to USD15 million against USD27 million in 2009.
Non-food products stood at USD16 million against USD28 million during the first seven months of 2009.
Concerning imports, an increase was recorded for all products, except foodstuff and semi-finished products which dropped respectively by 9.01% and 3.14%.
Imported industrial equipments ranked first with 41.62% of the total imports (USD9.556 billion), followed by semi-finished products (USD5.893 billion), food products (USD3.465 billion), non-food consumer goods (USD2.732 billion), unfinished products (USD787 million), energy products and lubricants (USD351 million) and agricultural produce (USD190 million).
