Morocco, Polisario Front to resume talks
The Moroccan and Sahrawi delegations will hold, on Wednesday and Thursday near New York, a second informal meeting under the aegis of the United Nations to prepare the fifth round of direct negotiations on the future of the Western Sahara, a non-autonomous territory occupied by Morocco since 1975.
This second meeting has been made possible owing to the huge efforts of the UN Secretary General' Special Envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross, who intensified contacts with the two involved parties, for over six months.
When announcing the resumption of the informal talks, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon pointed out that a rapid settlement of the Western Sahara issue "will be beneficial to peace and security in the region."
