Industrial activity drops in Q3 2009
Industrial public and private activity in Algeria has recorded a drop in the third quarter of 2009 compared with the preceding four years, according to a survey conducted among industrial employers by the National Office of Statistics (ONS).
The survey, focusing on industrial activity's type and rate and not on production, has found that more than 67% of public sector companies and more than 50% of private firms use more than 75% of their production capacity.
About one quarter of private businesses use less than 50% of their production capacity, according to the survey conducted among 740 companies (340 state-owned and 400 private businesses).
Raw material supply offer remains "lower than the expressed needs," according to more than 18% of the industrialists operating in the public sector and 8% of the private sector's.
