Over 3.3 million ha devoted to cereal production
More than 3.3 million hectares have been devoted to the cereal growing fro the 2009-2010 crop year, up by 100,000 ha compared with the previous period, according to a report published Wednesday by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The report also noted a significant increase in the fertilized lands with over 400,032 ha, i.e. +207% compared to a year earlier. The ministry pointed out that the 2009-2010 ploughing-sowing season has been conducted in "very good conditions owing to the different technical and economic measures."
The 2009-2010 growing season has been characterized by the availability of seeds and fertilizers at the Cereal and Pulses Cooperatives (CCLS), and the significant increase in the fertilized lands," the source added.
In this regard, the report emphasized the importance of the supplier's credits granted by the Algerian Interprofessional Office of Cereals (OAIC) to the farmers for the purchase of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.
