Former Council of Nation's Speaker Bachir Boumaza passes away
Former Speaker of the Council of the Nation (January 1998-April 2001), the Moudjahid (war veteran) Bachir Boumaza died in Switzerland at the age of 82, as announced on Friday. The late Boumaza was born on 26 November 1927 in Kherrata (Setif province, 300-km east of Algiers).
After the Independence, he was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Affairs in the first Government of the Algerian Republic in 1962, and then Minister of National Economy in 1963, Minister of Industry and Energy (1964-1965) and Minister of Information (1965-1966). Bachir Boumaza joined the national movement at an early age and was the founding president of the 8 May 45 Association.
