Imbalanced trade exchange between Algerian and the EU
Trade exchange between Algeria and the European Union under the Association Accord resulted in a strong imbalance in favor of the EU, according to ministry of trade. Out of oil and gas Algerian exportations to the EU remains minor.
In addition, European investment in Algeria is weak compared with the increasing exportation which has grown by 80 percent in 2008. In fact for 1 dollar Algeria exports to the European Union, it imports some dollars, according to the ministry’s figures.
In 2008, the European Union member countries have exported to Algeria $11,2 billion however, Algeria exported to the European countries, in the same period, for $1 billion. Moreover, Algerian exportations were mining and petrochemical products.
Importations from the EU account for 55 percent of the Algeria’s global importations. Meanwhile Algerian exporters are facing up with technical hindrances to convey their products to the European markets which impose strict measures.
